RPO YF5, emissions equipment for California which is required and available in California only for an original price of $99 (in 1987). What is it and how is it different from the other 49 states? I've always wanted to know because California's emissions standards are identical to ours, Arizona's, yet we don't have it.

Beats me. My 86 doesnt have it. I think I had a different relay or something like that LOL!

Actually there was a different chip in 86, but Im not sure if they did that in 87 or not. And I think there was also some difference with the charcoal canister setup cali/non-cali as well.

Knowing CA, it was probably just the extra cost of running the car thru their smog check and making sure it passes. So GM tacks on the cost to the selling price.
