Fuel pump replacement?

Everyone talks about having to drop the tank, but I distinctly remember reading somewhere that you can access it from inside. Something about under the carpet from the back seat? There's a body panel that can be knocked out, and that provides direct access to the pump assembly? Is this ringing anyone's bells or total wishful thinking? Thanks ahead.

You are opening up a real can of worms by cutting into the body to change that pump... like Ede said.. drop the rear and do it right. The F-body is flimsy enough without cutting into it to save yourself a few hours, if that.

You are totally missing what I'm asking here. I'm not saying "hey, let's tear up my pride and joy with a sawz-all," I think the access panel is already there. Can anyone confirm?

There's no access panel; just a big sheetmetal panel. It would be much easier & safer to drop the tank.

my sons 88 has what looks like a access panel in it, i don't believe that's what it's there for, and you'd still have to break a seal, or welds to get it off. not sure why it's there or what it's for. it really isn't much effort to drop the rear end to get to the gas tank.
