possible fuel pump relay??
possible fuel pump relay??
i got a 90 305 TBI. it doesnt matter what temp it is, but it has a tendency to not want to start. it seems as if its only getting about half the fuel pressure it should, causing me to have to pump the accelerator ( i know its bad but i have to do that to start it). i usually get it to hold a steady idle after 2-5 minutes of sputtering. after that, it will idle fine at a light, but when i take off from a stop, i have to stab the accelerator to keep it from dying. it pulls really well above 2000 rpm but doesnt pull worth crap under 2000-i pulled a code 43 off the ecm which is a bad fuel pump relay but i dont really believe it. i thought a fuel pump relay only sent 12 volts to the pump at startup, or does it constantly send 12 volts? if it constantly sends voltage, why would the car die in gear and run poorly under 2000 rpm? thanks for the help.
actually it was code 54 i pulled off the ecm for the pump relay-ignore the 43. i looked at a shop invoice from last fall and it was determined that 54 was an intermittent-i cant find anything on intermittent codes so what is this/what do i do?
Killer,
What IS the fuel pressure? It should be around 23 PSI at startup. Below 15PSI can be a problem.
Have you changed the filter lately?

i replaced the filter about 7000 miles ago-shouldnt TBI systems run like a carb at about 10-12 PSI? i dont know what the pressure is since i dont have a gauge and id rather not spend 30-40 bucks on one unless i have to-im about 95% sure its low pressure, i just am not sure why
