Fixing thermo on Berly
Hey, so I'm new to the TG.ORG boards, and I just bought a White 1986 Chevrolette Camaro Berly... I bought it for 1200, and it is in near perfecton condition. It's a V8 uhm, 305, Carbeurated, Auto tranny.
So as you probably know, the gauges are all electronic (the turn signal I have not gotten used to yet lol). The gauge saying the temperature is always stuck at the highest point, though it is running perfectly fine. How might I fix this problem? An accurate temperature reading is essential, apparently these cars have a hard time w/ cooling lol.

I would first check to make sure that you do not have a cooling problem. A quick check with an infared light can tell you the temp of your coolant. If it reads normal I would replace the temp sending unit. They go bad from time to time.

So the gauge is constantly pegged at full hot? Is it ALWAYS up there, or does it go up when you turn the key (like is should), but it just stays up there?
Could be a couple of things. I really doubt the engine is actually that hot. Doesn't hurt to check, though. Anyway, check the temp gauge sending unit wire (single green wire). Driver side head, between cylinders 1 & 3. Check to make sure that wire hasn't come loose and is grounding out on something. The gauge will peg if it grounds out.
The other thing is a worn out gauge. The gauge will also peg once the gauge has "seen it's better days". Pretty sure they can be bought through GM, but expect to pay a pretty penny. Otherwise, there is always the junkyard.
*EDIT* stupid grammar/spelling errors!
