? ? ? Oil stuff...
1992 RS 305 Automatic...
166,000 miles...
taking off...dropped in low 1, ran to 4K RPM, shifted to 2nd, ran to 4K RPM, shifted to 3rd, stopped fast(red light)...
car died...i restarted it...
the problem...when it idles, or gets close to it, oil pressure drops, gets close to red, drops to 0, sits there, hit the gas, it goes back up...drove home and let it sit...
changed oil, (4000 miles since change, i used quaker state 5w-30, went to quaker state 10w-40), started, oil pressure fine...
let sit, came back few hours, fired her up, oil pressure good, drove around, oil pressure good, hit around 160 on temp gauge, starts to go down a little bit, got warm, oil pressure once again, close to red, drops to 0...
any ideas?
oil pump, oil somethin else(dont know what its called...), blowed head gasket?
engine makes no wierd noise, no knocks, no change in performance in vehicle at all...
gauge f*cked?

Klayburn,
It's possible that the oil pressure sensor is not reporting correctly to the dash gauge. This isn't that uncommon in out cars. If the oil pressure actually dropped below 7PSIG, the fuel pump should have shut off, effectively killing the engine.
Verify the dash gauge with a separate mechanical pressure gauge. That should provide your answer.

just to let you know, it was the Oil Sending Unit, it had a tiny hole in it, so we figured that oil was getting in it when it was warm thast why it was reading while it was cold...
thanks for the help!

my guess is the stalling problem was your EGR valve...if it kinda 'chugs' at idle that could be your problem in that area..
the oil pressure sender obviously was your problem, sometimes the gauge will fluctuate (the needle swings wildly up and down, or zeros at the bottom or top)
