A 350 ZZ430 that will cost you 4000 Dollars!

Realistically, a Good clean Tuneup, Some sort of Improved induction ( air cleaner ), and a bit more initial timing should get you in the ***

Keep You satisfied for a few weeks till You start thinking Of spending some serious Cash.

When that time comes, Its Timt to start looking at a Catback, Headers, and Thinking Of ways to Ditch the TBI

Well, the law says you have to have catalytic converters...however it doesn't say that they have to be working or being used. A guy I know chopped of his muffler altogether and pulled his cats out. That thing is LOUD, but cool. Don't know if I should do that though, it draws attention by cops.

Those Impreza's RULE! The new WRX's are bada** too.

But back to the topic. Change the Oil, Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, O2 sensor, and while you are at it, you will probabally need to change your EGR valve and your ignition module also. They aren't that expensive, and totally worth every penny.

You are probabally looking at spending approximately $150 for everything, plus about a weekend worth of work on your car, espically if you have never changed the plugs on a Camaro before.

Spend your money first on a complete tune up, replace all of your fluids from the radiator to the rear end and do your free mods. Then, you want to start on your exhaust, and ALWAYS start at the rear of the car and work foward. So, the first thing to do is get a quality, high flow, mandrel bent, 3" cat back exhaust system. Most systems are available for less than $300 from Jegs and Summit.

Best ET (w/o LT4 cam): 14.32 @ 97.7mph
(corrected for elevation)

Soon to Come: 7.625" 10 Bolt with 3.42s and Accel TPI Intake Base

I got a Dynomax kit from Summit for closer to $200, and it sounds great. I chose it 'cause it had dual 2" outlets and I couldn't find a Flowmaster that did. It sounds great.

Man I know your situation, cause I'm in it too. I just got my 2nd camaro a 91Z28 305. Now I'd do everything that the people on the board mentioned. Tune up, then some exhaust to give you a little taste of performance. But stop there, and don't go get all the BS bolt ons. If you seriously want to run some decent times, start saving up and get a decent engine swap. You can find short blocks and full crate engines that'll make nice power, and end the end you'll spend about the same cash, run faster, and have a FRESH ENGINE. This is the route I'm taking this time with my 91Z28. By the time you invest in intake, gears, pulleys, chips, nice tires, then pay labor on whatever you cant do yourself, your looking at a nice big bill, and little to show for you slowly spent money. I have friends with LT1's who ran like 14's stock put 3,000 into it over time and only run 13's. For that they coulda had a supercharger from vortec and ran alot faster. Thats just my opinion man, go whatever route you want. It just makes more sense not to fall for those 2hp bolt on gimicks that flood the market.

This is just my opinion but I would stick with the 305 TBI, but switch to a single plane manifold, (the stock 2 plane seems too restrictive). I just bought a '90 RS 305 TBI, and first I tuned up, then air filter, then exhaust (I'm doing muffler only, dont have enuff $$ for catback), then the manifold on the engine.

Thats my plan, I did a lot of research on it, and that seems the best way to mod your TBI on a budget.

i wouldnt go for a new ignition module.. they basically work or dont work, so since your car runs now, its not like getting a new one will restore all kinds of lost power.. even though its a small amount of money relative to other 'mods', just keep it for gas

Although I haven't really embarked on waking up my TBI just yet, here's what I plan to do:

Hi-flowing muffler & 3" tailpipes, 3" cat-back pipe, hi-flow cat, 2 1/2" y-pipes, new O2 sensor, higher-energy ignition coil with associated cap, rotor, plugs & wires and new module, 180* stat, lower-temp fan switch, and a cold air intake of some design.

Got the K&N filter already, and I was stupid enough to buy a Thermomaster Chip from Hypertech, and a big waste of $150 that was. I may, if I get curious enough try a chip from Fastchip, but that's a last priority.
A short mod list, but this is only a street car for primarily the wife, and myself when the '84's being worked on.
Personally, I don't think it's in my best interests to blow all kinds of cash on a cam, heads & headers and everything else on a 305 TBI motor just to run to & from work, or the grocery store.
My philosophy is to do all my external and free mods in preparation for a larger engine, in the case of my '84 anyway.
Just an example for ya though, do what you think you will enjoy.
