still trying to figure out my engine size, and the engine CODE says 350, while the engine CASTING number says 5.0L (305). how is this possible? which is correct?

btw, engine was in the car when purchased,. not the original LB9 that the vin states.

Check the engine casting number right behind the driver side head on the top face. The only other way is to measure the bore.

What do you mean by engine code, the stamping on the front pad? The casting number is the only true why of knowing. Somebody could have restamped the block to sell it as a 350.

how would sombody restamp the block? also i read in another post that colors of the sbc have changed over the years, well mine is orange, so that would mean its pre 77? but it looks like the color may have been light blue, or maybe that is just some sealant. all the wiring on the car is bad. i can tell and mechs have told me, so the only way i could get around all the crap is with a mirror, and it said 5.0L. thats all i found and that was behind the driver cylinder head. there is NO way i can check the pass cylinder head without a LONG days work.

If it says 5.0 its a 305 no matter what. Its easy to restamp a block all you need is a hammer and some stamps. The block casting number should be right around the same area you found the 5.0 mark.
