85 or 86 question

........My 85 z28 lg4 needed a new alternator belt. What I found when I went to get one is that a belt for an 86 was the one that fit. My car was made in May of 85. Did GM swap to the 86 engine around that time? I bought the car in 89 and saw no indication the motor had been changed. Is there any other indications that separate an 85 from an 86 engine? thanks.........Zapr.

I have found that the replacement parts databases at many parts outlets are not 100% correct. With older models, the level of accuracy seems to diminish even further. If you checked the part numbers at a dealership parts department, you might have the best chance of getting the correct information about your parts. Places like AutoZone, Parts America, Checkers, etc. can have less accurate data.
