What is the correct amount of oil?

I know the manual calls for 5 quarts but it reads way over even after I run the car for a few minutes to get oil in the filter. I find 4.5 is perfect but I don't mess anything up. I always change oil with the car on ramps so I don't know if its holding a little back due to the incline, although I have the same problem with my truck and I change that on a flat suface.

Thanks

4 quarts in the pan, and whatever your filter holds.

I fill the filter on the bench (often takes as long as the rest of the oil change to get the filter to "soak" it all up), install it, then put a gallon of oil in through the filler cap.
