Steering problem

I notice this past week, while driving through parking lots, that the steering wheel suddenly goes slack right when it's turned as far as it can go.
Otherwise, there isn't any 'play' in it. There aren't any leaks and there's fluid in the reservoir.
I've had problems with the front end before but this one is new. Could it be the steering box? I have heard that after time the frame can be affected.
Maybe I should have my wonder bar put on it, instead of using it as a doorstop.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Slack? As in, you turn the steering wheel and nothing corresponding happens to the front wheels?

Thats what it feels like... I guess I could make somebody look at it and tell me what it's doing.
Probably my overactive imagination?

It's possible your imagination is running away, but if something is different than before, it's worth checking. Things don't normally just change for no reason. You might have a pump or gearbox issue, or you might have the frame rail cracks that appear on many of these cars. Either way, I'd be looking into it.

Well it's not doing it often, so I should have time to save up $ for it, whatever it turns out to be.

I sometimes wish I couldn't tell the difference.
