Instructions anywhere for A/C removal ?
Instructions anywhere for A/C removal ?
I have a 1983 Z28. I have windows that unroll and t-tops that come off. So I want my A/C out ! It is too difficult to change spark plugs and such cause the A/C is always in the way.
Anyone know if it is dangerous to do this in my garage? Anyone done this before? How about where I can get detailed instructions on how to do this? Thanks

The spark plugs seem kind of easy to me. You can get 1,3,5,7 easily and if you take off the AIR bypass valve(2 bolts)You can get to 2 and 4 from up top. To get to numbers 6 and 8 just jack up the car and get them from underneath. Having stock exhaust manifolds would make that a little harder but all it takes is a 3 inch extension for the two from the bottom. I'd say staying cool is worth having to spend all of thirty minutes doing a tune up every 5,000 miles. Then again I'm in Texas.

I was able to lift my (and a friend's) a/c system out completely without opening any fittings; if you search this message board (or the "archives" board?), you should be able to find my old message about it.

It's actually not just spark plugs. I cannot get my header off the passenger side. Too many things in the way. Why take off the headers? Cause they are always rusting through the paint because of the high humidity here. So I spend an afternoon grinding off the rust, repainting and baking them suspended over the BBQ ! I cannot afford a ceramic coating so please don't even suggest it.
