Power Steering noise?? .. Plz Help!

Hey guys

Would a power steering pump make nasty noises
and mess with the performance of an engine???

I have one .. and the pervious owner didnt care for it.
HAS NO STEERING FLUID >> and its been that way..

the noise sounds like a rod .. but the engine idles
fine.. only when you give it gas is the noise prevelant.
the noise does sound like its coming from the front
of the engine, so I check the the steering fuild and its
tapped .. I call the previous owner and he says he
has never added any since hes had the car!!!

what an as* !!!!!

try pulling the belt for a second and see if it goes away, if it does
try sucking what ever old fluid out and refilling with valvoline fluid, this has quited a noisey rack on a vette and the pump on my iroc which was making a horrible squeel

I have a unibelt that wraps around ever pulley.

But, what you said makes me alil happier.
I thought it was my block.
its does make a squeal noise which really sounds
like the internals of the engine are screwed ..

but idles fines

You can still pull the belt even with a serpentine system(unibelt). You just cant run it for very long because your water pump isnt pumping any fluid. Its a good way to rule out all accesorys as points of noise.

Have you had the system bled, air trapped in the system will cause it to squeal and make grinding noises especially when making turns. Just a thought!!!!!!!

also those resivors are very easy to crack the case when working with things around it, moreso with older v-belt systems and using prybars on it to tighten stuff....i learned my lesson

you can actually go to autozone and borrow a serpentine belt prybar... very easy to use and if you like it, they let you buy it!
