Missing when I get on it
It's time for a tuneup for my 1990 TPI 305. I have a miss under hard acceleration.
I just want to get it so that I can punch the gas and not have it miss. The miss isn't totally bad, except that any miss is bad. Misses are usually in the 2.5K - 5K rpm range. The tach bounces around slightly - i don't know if this is normal, but the tach in my saturn is rock solid compared to this car.
I've only had this car since May. It has 74K. Changed all of the fluids, cleaned out the TPI w/ Seafoam (it seems to miss less after the cleaning). The oil stays pretty clean. I have the usual startup blue smoke due to leaky valve seals. The car starts up great and gets good gas milage (18 - 20mpg). I currently have a gapping exhaust leak after the cats (a poor man's cutout).
It is currently 100% stock, but I'm thinking of upgrading the ignition - or is it a waste of money? I don't plan on making radical modifications to this car - a complete header to tailpipe exhaust, and maybe a cold air intake will do.
I was thinking of getting an Accel cap and rotor, MSD coil, but I'm undecided on which AC Delco plug (rapid fire or regular) and which plug wires to get. I don't put too many miles on this car, maybe 5K - 7.5K per year. Just trying to get it running solid.
Thanks,
Don

I did not put any Seafoam in the tank or oil. I pulled the brake vacum hose and just let the engine suck it up.
Seafoam has water in it, and I don't believe in putting water in the gas or oil.
For the gas tank, I use fuel injector cleaner. Not sure which is best, so I'll just try them all.
