Can I wire both fans to come on? Instead of one?

Hey, I know that one of the fans comes on when the computer tells it to and the other when the block gets too hot... and one of them also turns on when the AC turns on. Im a little confused as to what is what, but in anycase... why couldn't I wire both fans to turn on when the computer tells one to come on? Of coarse I would figgure out what fan is what before I try anything, but doesn't this make sense?

Owner of a 1989 IROC-Z Camaro, a.k.a. "The Babe Magnet". Painted a cheap metallic blue that chips off all too easily and covers over the IROC-Z decals on the doors, also has non-leaking T-tops, ps, pw, power rear hatch, working A/C. Mods: SLP intake runners, gutted MAF sensor, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, modified air spoil, 3.27 posi rear end.
Broken stuff: rear spoiler brake light, driver side lock, power antenna, tilt steering, rear end bushings, cracked passanger side ground effect, washer fluid tab, leaking exhaust and a rotted through muffler that sparks when the car bottoms out while driving like any 17 year old does.

I did that and my charging system couldn't handle both fans being on at the same time. I hooked them both up to a toggle switch at my dash to let the motor heat up properly, then I'd switch them on. But as soon as I switched the fans on I went from have around 14 - 15 volts to about 8 - 9. My battery died the next day after I did this, but it was on it's way out the door anyways. I don't relate my battery dieing to this hookup, but I wonder if the reason my charging system couldn't handle this hookup was because my battery was going south anyways.

I'd like to know if anyone else has done this hookup succesfully and how.

With the car in stock form, the Alt will keep up with it. Probably will have a problem with a big Amp, etc.

Both fans will eventually run anyway (normally) if it's hot enough. But then it''s too hot for my liking. I changed the fan swith to a "Jet" unit that comes on at 190 and put the other one on an external adjustable temp semsor. Set to come on about 200. Has a bulb you mount to the radiator. End of problem.

A buddy of mine did this on his 86 TA the same way Night Hawk did, with a toggle switch, and it works fine. I think night hawk is correct on his assumption of a bad battery causing his problems, cause my friend has had no problemos with his-

OK I have the dual fans on my 91 , What i did , is i got the Jet coolant switch for the head that comes on at 200 and off at 180 , then i traced the fan wires to the two relays on the fire wall , then i took the output wire for the relays that turns the fans on and jumped them together, so now when the fan that is operated by the head switch get up to temprature and turns on the drivers side fan , ( If i remeber) it also turns on the second fan whitch is controlled by the computer. I havent had a problem since on a hot summers day I runa at about 180 -190 And thats with a 180 thermostate
