What's the deal here?

What keeps a car from cutting off when the key is turned back? It's an '86 Trans AM with a new GM crate motor and an Edelbrock carb it just started this so I'm thinking something electrical maybe?
thanks
btw, it doesn't change tones at all with the key turned back it just takes its' sweet time to quit.

The problem you are reffering to is called "dieseling." If you want to stop this problem, turn your car off in gear then shift to park. Happens to lots of high compression or hot engines, either from weather, hard or long driving.

I've always thought of a motor running rough when you turn it off as dieseling. This thing runs fine like nothing happened for another 10 or so seconds.

I'm thinkin its an electrical connection problem with the ignition. If you're saying its running fine and just doesn't turn off, then its gotta be electrical. Dieseling wouldn't sound like it was running fine.

Nope can't say it's what I thought then. Well I don't see how it gets enough fuel to continue to run. Sorry I don't know. Kinda stumped, but it has got to be electrical.

Isn't this a common problem fixable by putting a diode in between the alternator and the ignition?

I heard of this before, but I think it has something to do with this...

Ok I dont have an F-body, but my 88 Monte Carlo LS with a stock 305 does that when I shut it off when it was still on fast idle warming up. It doesnt do it any other time.
