I think my motor locked up....

I was driving home today and started noticing a slight hesitation under heavy throttle. I turned off onto a side road and pulled into a gas station. At this point it stalled out completely. I popped the hood and saw a bunch of gas sitting on the intake manifold around the carb. So I thought maybe a fuel line came undone or I blew a carb gasket, but everything looks good and tight in that area. Now when I try to start it, the starter spins really really slow and smoke comes off the battery terminals as if the starter is working really really hard to start a locked up engine.

Any ideas/input????

Try turning the engine by hand. (ok, use a tool of some sort...) and see if it is hard to turn. If so, take off the belts, one at a time, and see if that improves anything. (I once bought a 92 blazer that the owner claimed had a seized engine, I replace the alternator, and sold if for 300% profit....) If not, well, time for a rebuild.

flooded

well i got the motor apart today, i was relieved to see very little gas in the heads. I was fearing a lot more. However, when i pulled the plugs, gas poured out of 2 of the cylinders, and the rest of the plugs were covered in oil and gas. How did this happen? Just from the carb flooding?

Can I just replace the plugs, change the oil, swap on a different carb and be ok? Or is there more to it?

yeah for soem reason your carb dumped way tomuch gas into the engine... in the long run this could cause a bent rod or worse man id figure out why it did it. but it does sound carb related... id try just what you said, new carb and plugs and if you didnt hurt anythign the first time id think you will be ok.
