Help me get spark!!!! Please!!!
Help me get spark!!!! Please!!!
Hi I'm having a serious problem getting my car started due to zero spark. I have plenty of fuel pressure and I have performed the following:
- Replaced Module
- Replaced Pickup Coil
- Tested the main coil off the vehicle and it gave a nice blue spark snap
- Checked distributor connections
- Checked ECM fuse
Background info:
- Plugs, Rotor, Cap, Wires all replaced about 2 years ago
- Has an older [blue anodized aluminum casing] Crane Fireball ignition box [possible culprit?]
- Fuel pump replaced last year
*** Car was running like new until I went outside one night to head to the bar and there was no spark whatsoever ***
Any idea's? What kind of symptoms would be shown if the ignition box has failed?

The FIRST thing that I'd try, is to see IF there's spark to the 'spark plugs'.
While that may sound ignorant, it's a tell-tale sign if your ignition system is working.
I'd pull out a spark plug, with the wire attached... and it close to the engine head... see if it's still "cracking a blue spark" while turning the engine over.
If it is, then you know that there's most likely a fuel/air issue.
On a side note, did you recently change the cap/wires/rotor/distributor... to the point that it could be SO way out of time that it won't fire ?
On this 2.8L MPFI, I could have sworn to the book that there was enough fuel pressure because it would start once and a while... basically, I swapped out the fuel pump... and it's a nice running little engine now, go figure... gotta love 40# fuel PSI, not !!
Good luck.

I'm sorry I have no idea how to test to see if your Fireball ignition box is working or not. Senior Member

Uhhh, yeah. If the aftermarket unit has totally crapped out, and is sending no drive pulse to the coil, then there will be no spark at all.
In all honesty, that's one of the first thing's I'd have checked. Totally remove it and go back to stock ignition and see if you have spark.
