Dry Starts
Ok you guys gota help me out, I have owned my car for almost a year now, and every time I try to start it while its cold I gota turn it over like 2-3 times before it actually starts. I replaced the battery, plugs, spark plugs, air filters, fuel pressure regulator (sp) I just have no idea why it wants to start so poorly when it’s cold. It almost sounds like its not getting enough fuel when starting. Don’t know, HELP!

My car has done this since I got it. Replace whole fuel system, complete tune up. Finally replace the ignition module and pick up coil in the dist. Set the time which was about 10 degrees slow (?) and it now starts cold just like it should, runs good after startup too. Don't know which piece it actually was, but I suspect someone had set the timing with the timing set conncector still hooked up and the slow timing was causing some problems. Also the pickup coil looked really bad, connectors green, wires cracked, coil itself real bad. Take a close look in your distributor and check timing - and check all vacuum lines.
Both of my camaros do that when I start it and someone told me it is something in the fuel pump that does that (a leaky return gasket in the in-tank fuel pump or something minor like that). Just give it alittle gas when starting. It's not a big deal.
If it cuts out when you put it in gear you probably need to replace the IAC because it can get stuck after time. It's easy and I suggest taking off the throttle body (on TPI model) to do it. ALSO MAKE SURE you DON'T over torque it or it will break off. I found out first hand and it sucks trying to remove that thing. It only torques to 30in/lbs NOT ft/lbs (check the instructions, I could be off)!
