very bad sound in the back

i was traveling up a hill and i suddenly heard this bad noise in the back of the car. something to do with the rear-end or driveshaft, not the tires, not the engine. this sound occured around 1500rpm and stopped around 2000rpm. it sounds like metal against metal, but im not sure. does anybody know whats wrong or has had this problem. it doesnt sound like i should be driving the car.

That happened to me. Torque arm had come loose off the tranny.

Take a look down there and see if you can wiggle it around.
