Small electric motor sound

When I shut my 1991 Trans Am forumula off, an electric motor at the rear of the car runs for a minute or so. Twice I have walked past the car and the motor was running although I hadn't driven it or even been in it for 20 minutes.

The sound comes from underneath the rear of the car but it is not the motor that shuts the back lid. Any idea what the motor is?

Is it normal for a fuel pump to run after shutting the engine off?

I understand the fuel pump can reprime when the ignition is turned off but I don't see why it should randomly reprime after the car is parked.

No its not normal. Considering its intermintant this may take a while to solve. You can try unpluging the conector from the ecm to the fuel pump relay. That would let you know if for some reason the ecm was commanding the pump to run. Then do the same thing on the oil pressure switch.

The computer will be off once the key is turned off, or shortly thereafter. Its probably a sticking relay or stuck oil pressure switch.
