What do you think?
O.K. After some of my replies, some of you may think that I have something against cubic inches. That couldn't be farther from the truth.
I've got a black '92 RS, 305TBI, auto. It is a daily driver, so when I do swap out the engine it will be when the current motor is too far gone. When I do put an engine in I want moderate horsepower, but nothing extreme. I'd still want something that is streetable and won't cost an arm and a leg.
I've thought about a batch fired 350TPI from the boneyard. I'd love a stroker sb with aluminum heads, but that'd be too costly for a first time swap (at least for me anyway).
Well, I spoke to the local DPS and it seems if I swap out my engine, the new one has to have the emissions equipment for my car's model year(at least that is what I understood). I also asked about exhaust regulations in my area. Exhaust that exits in front of the rear tires is prohibited. It has to exit in the rear(either strait back, or to the sides(behind the rear wheels). Muffler type doesn't matter. What does is loudness. What is "loud" is at the discretion of the police officer. It's what he/she believes is loud.
Here's the idea that I have had for a while now. I always liked the early '90's chevy 454SS trucks (the ones painted black). The early models were backed by the 700R4, so I've thought about swapping in one of those engines in, and putting the 454SS graphics where the IROC-Z graphics normally goes on the doors. I'd like to keep a stock appearance(kind of like the way it would've come from the factory). Since I've already got a black paint, that part is already taken care of.
I know that this swap would be more intensive than a sbc. I know that articles have been written on the subject (I think Hot Rod did one back in May '88). I'd most likely need headers, engine mounts, larger radiator, oil pan, etc.) I don't know if a bb would fit underneath a stock hood.
I like cars that handle, and I know that this isn't the best combination. I saw John Moss's ZL-1 Camaro on tv and fell in love. I don't want to build a car that is one-sided. I'd like one that is streetable(pump gas), and handles well. I want a decent all-around car. Not one that excells in only one area. It doesn't have to be the best handling, or fastest in the quarter.
There's just something about the words "Big Block Camaro." What do you think?

I saw an article in HOT ROD a few months ago where a guy took a third gen Trans Am and crammed a Buick 455 in her. I really don't remember much except for the sentence that "Headers weren't even an option." I'm sure this will be a hell of a job to undertake, but it would definately be cool.
I don't know about replacing the stock IROC-Z graphics though. If it were mine, I'd leave it alone. I really like the "sleeper" effect though.

As for graphics, my car doesn't have any, because it's an RS. I had thought of ordering the 454SS graphics to place them on the lower portion of the doors (when and if I do this). But I understand the coolness of a sleeper.
In the Summit Catalog, Hooker sells engine swap headers for an 82-92 Camaro with a 396-454ciV8. They're Super Competition. I figured that these would be the ones that I would need.

The 454SS trucks never came with a 700R4. The 1990 model had a TH400, 3.73 gears and used a Mark IV block. The 91-93 models had 4L80E trannys, 4.10 gears and used a Gen V block (one piece rear main etc).
I drive my 91 daily. 112000 km on it now.
