What is this?

While putting new plugs and wires in my car, I noticed a wire hanging down, not connected to anything. I followed it up, and it goes to the object pictured below (looks kind of like an upside down drinking cup). Does anyone know what this object is, and what it does? Also, what does the wire from it go to (its light blue)?

Yeah it looks like a siren. That blue wire probably goes to the actual alarm... Isn't that kind of an odd place to put a siren? Next to the alternator? I have always seen them installed next to the master cylinder.

Yep, I hooked the blue wire up to +12V and sure enough, it's a siren. I found a label on it also, it's made by Alpine. I guess my car used to have a security system. Thanks for the info, I just wanted to make sure it wasnt a vital instrument which had become disconnected.
