I have a question concerning the ac compressor. I wasattempting to reroute my belt over the ac compressor the other day, and while doing so, hit the connector on the compressor that is right behind the pulley, and naturally it broke off. The connector has a dark green and black wire going to it, and from what I gather from haynes, it is for the ac compressor clutch, and then runs to the PCM. Now, can this be fixed? Do i have to buy a whole new compressor to remedy the problem? How would I go about fixing it? If I don't do anything, will my ac still work?I'm just rather frustrated that it broke off so easily, and I am hoping it wont' affect my ac from working since my pw dont' work and I live in Florida. Could someone enlighten me as to how to fix this?Thanks

 

Did the connector on the A/C clutch break off? Or did it just come unplugged? It definitely won't work without being connected......

 

It does not go to the ECM; it goes to the A/C control head.

It's the wire that carries power to the A/C clutch, to make it come on.

It won't work without it..... any more than your computer will work if it's not plugged in.

It's a very easy connector to hork off of a junk car. Lots and lots of GM cars use the same connector.

 

Yeah, it broke off the actual compressor. How, or what would be the best way, to go about reconnecting the piece to the compressor so it works? If ya'll could give me some advice on this, I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

 

you can replace just the compressor clutch coil.
a look around at a wrecking yard may turn up what you need, but they may not want to pull a good 1 off a compressor, also, 1 from a wrecking yard may be brittle & break easily.
i think you can get just the coil from the parts house. if they don't carry the coil by itself, you can get a complete clutch assembly which would have it, but, it won't be cheap, it may be cheaper to replace the compressor with a rebuilt.
to replace the clutch coil, you will a set of snap ring pliers & probably a puller to remove the front of the clutch.
if the system is charged you don't need to remove the compressor from the car to change the clutch coil, but you may need unbolt it from the motor but leave the lines hooked up to gain the room needed remove the clutch.
be aware that if done wrong, you can damage the front seal in the compressor or the compressor shaft of which either would require replacement of the compressor.

 

Wow....didn't know I was going to have to do that much....damn. I was thinking i could scrape away some of the hardened insulation foam (at least that's what it looks like) and sodder the wires back together as a temporary fix just so I won't have to drive around with no ac and no power windows in Florida....Am I crazy or can this be done?

Go for it. You can't ruin anything else by doing that. If that doesn't fix it, you have to replace the clutch coil anyways, so you might as well try it out..
