Can I Do This?

For some reason my intrument cluster will not light up. I blew something good. I have been searching for what I did wrong the last few days and havent found it. Everything works but that. There is no power coming out of the fuse box whatsoever. Can I run wire from a battery outlet to a toggle switch to the grey wire which controls all the lighting? (There will be a fuse in there.)

This may sound stupid and I don't mean it like that in any way towards you but I have seen this multiple times....

Are you sure the dimmer on the headlight switch isn't turned down all the way??

If its OK, I would check the output on the headlight switch to the dash lights. This is where they get their power.

ok heres what i got. I checked that lol . I have power coming into the dimmer switch and going back out. I put a 12v light to the outpart and adjusted the dimmer and the light got brighter and dimmer like it should. The wire coming out in a gree/white wire. I rigged the grey wire to the green wire and it worked great except the dimmer switch started smoking. I cut the grey wire (cluster wire) and put it stright to the battery and perfect. I pulled the 5amp fuse out and put the test light in there, turned on the lights and no power. what to do? Guy at the dealer told me it could be this one part and it runs 300 bucks.
