Heads rolled to 21°, good, bad or ugly?
Heads rolled to 21°, good, bad or ugly?
Hello all!
I found some after-market aluminum heads that were originally 23°, but were "rolled" to 21°. Any cons associate with this rolling process? The seller also said that one needs to buy 0.060" thick intake gaskets.
Any body hear of this?

I don't know why you say that at all. It actually gives a straighter intake shot to the back of the valve.
The heads were angle milled, probably to make a smaller combustion chamber. I'd check that first to make that its not way to small to run. If it checks out fine, you will have to have the intake manifold milled to match the new angle of the heads.
It really depends upon if they will work on your motor (compression ratio) and how much you want to spend for them to work.

There's nothing inherently "wrong" with angle-milling a set of heads; but, if you have to ask, it's probably not for you.
Most likely somebody was trying to get the compression up as high as possible.
Angle-milling creates all sorts of situations with sealing things, and sometimes with hardware. It causes difficulty with the head bolts or studs specifically.... keep in mind, that the holes through the heads where they go, are now also 2° away (bent) from where they used to be.
I'd say, it doesn't sound like the right set of heads for you.

Starting to see why the seller is selling them.
Thanks for the warning!
