what the he!! is this???

i have a 350 carb camaro. and when i start it up in the moring it starts off at 1000rpms to warm up then it goes to 1500rpms-2000rpms. then i can usually hit the gas or put it in gear and it will drop to like a 1000rpms idle put now it is staying on 1500-2000rpms when im driving around and it wouldn't go down. how do i make it go down to idle? is something getting stuck? thanx for the help

does it have an electric choke on it? if so, check it. not htat it affects idle terribly, but just check and make sure your timing didnt get wacked up somehow. I had the same problem on my carbed 383, it was such a bltch to put in gear cuse it would jolt the car so badly. anyhow, check those, im sure its the idle control

Mike,

Check the power to the chocke heater. You should also check the auxilliary oil pressure switch, since your engine MAY have the switch in the choke heater circuit (I'm not sure what year that started/ended).

You should also check/clean/lube the high idle cam to make sure it can move freely.

This was happening to me a couple of weeks ago, turned out that my throttle return spring had a kink and wouldn't close all the way, just something to check.

Actually now that I think about it what happened was at the end of the spring where it connect to the throttle it had just positioned itself wrong and was stuck there holding the throttle open at idle. All I had to do was take of the spring and put it back on, yours may have a different problem w/the spring if that is what's causing your problem.
