Need help with 82 firebird 4bbl
I have an 82 firebird trans am with a 305 Q-jet. Ive only made a few changes, i redid the exhaust, 3 inch flowmasters, i put an edelbrock performer intake, and ive put the k&n floating air cleaner on. I was thinking of putting a crane high performance street cam on and then maybe doing some vortec cylinder heads. My question is, without the expensive roller rockers, what is the best way to get this car where it should be. My friend has a thunderbird sc and it kills me off the line, i catch up in third, and blows away in fourth. I need some help.

Yes, cam will help and better flowing heads will help. Also, consider looking into porting your heads to increase flow. There is a lot of "cleanup" that can be done to the stock heads that will dramatically increase flow WITHOUT having to be a "head porting expert".
However, you have posted this question on the DIY Prom Board which is more for burning and modifying the GM eproms. Your question is seeking more "general performance". I think you would have more success if you posted this question on the "Tech/General" Board.
I will move it to that Board for you. Good luck with your build.

Apparently, you have posted this question also on the Tech/General Board too. I can no longer transfer it again from the "Tech/General Board". Maybe on of the Tech/General Moderators can transfer this to the "Carb" Board as you don't have any post there. They may have some good suggestions regarding "tuning your carb".

You don't want vortec heads on a 305, your already low compression will go beyond low, not good. I'd port your 416 heads you have, maybe install bigger valves.

We'll just close this one and let the other one collect the answers.
