Fuel system on '84 Camaro

I am building a mildly SCed 350 for my '84 Camaro. I currently have the entire fule system (tank and all) off the car. What changes do people recommend for the engine that I am building. Would I benefit from a larger diameter fuel line than I have now? Recommendations for type of fuel pump? Is there anything I need to do to the pickup in the tank besides replace with a new one?

Thanks,

Glen

I would use the factory fuel line, its probably big enough unless you are building a 450 horsepower engine or more. You will definately need to upgrade your fuel pump, the stock mechanical pump won't be enough to feed your new 350. I really like the Carter electric pumps, they are quieter than the Holly's and are internally regulated. I have the 100gph carter and it works great. Or if you don't want to go through the trouble of installing an electric get a high flow mechanical pump.

I was definitely going to upgrade the mechanical pump but now I am thinking an electric pump would be good. What all do I have to change to go electric?

Its not too hard converting to an electric fuel pump but it can be a little time consuming. First get a block off plate to cover the hole where the mechanical pump was. You will have to cut and splice into the fuel line that used to go to the mech. pump and run new line up to the carb. The best place I've found to mount an electric pump on a thirdgen is back by the tank where the undercarriage slopes up where the backseat is. Unhook the fuel line that comes out of tank and connect it to your pump. Depending on what kind of pump you get you may need a regulator and return line.
The easiest way to wire the new pump is to buy a wiring kit from painless. It comes with a relay, circuit breaker and wiring diagram. You may want to power the relay with the ignition switch and a manual switch that way if you want to turn the key on without pumping fuel you can, also makes a nice anti-theft device if you hide the switch.
