Talked to a local performance shop...

Ok, i told the guy i was hoping to put out 350 RWHP. but the place was just tooo well known to use parts that i need rather then, use parts that are good for 600HP.

He told me max i should use is 9.8 compression ratio. and all becuase of todays gasloines

But the thing is, can i reground the crank from my 350 and stuff and use it for a good 350RWHP?

I got machine shop estimates, and they told me $150 to fully prepare block , this is bore hone and all. $125 to fully reground the crank. And $80 to reshape all rods.

I'll buy the pistons and bearings and all... but is this what i should do for a decent 350RWHP? or go all new parts. This is on a budget guys. Understand, i am gonna try to go performance just not to the entent you guys would go...

You have trouble shooting a vibration in your car. You can't figure out the headlight motors. The list goes on.

Now you want to build an engine. Do yourself a favor. Have a shop build it.

I've asked before, I will ask again. Do you know how to search? How about read up on some things?

In all honesty, thus far, with your past displays, if you want the engine to last longer than the break in, have a shop do it.

The engine still has to be installed...he does that himself, all bets are off and this will be the most entertainment we've had here on TGO.

I'd use all new parts, it only cost alittle more for all new stuff. I would also go with a 383 stroker and some really good aftermarket heads.

Have the shop build it and install it for you. Have them do everything including picking the parts.

350 RWHP is alot. That will put a 3600lb Camaro into the mid 11`s.
You really can`t use any stock parts on an engine like that.Let
alone use a stock tranny or rearend. My buddy built a 408W stroker motor up here in Canada and the engine alone cost
$10,000.00 Canadian. It`s usually how fast you can afford to go,
not how fast you want to go.

He works at McDonalds...he doesnt have the money for an engine build. This is just another freakin post about something he will most likely never do. Why even bother to respond to his posts anymore guys? OK guys? Hey guys, come on help him out ok guys? This will be awesome guys, you'll see. Guys please, please guys. In case anyone hasnt been following along here, Shane has several other projects he hasnt even started yet. Shane, your car will NEVER put out 350rwhp. NEVER.....

Besides, the prices they quoted you do not include taking the motor out of the car and putting it back in.

i work at a bowling ally and a retail store called marshalls, yes i'm a highschool student with two jobs. But hey i'm made to work and made to make money.

I average, making $400 a week, but its all gone that day so i get tired of having no money really fast. And its all cause i spend it on the girls. Its hard trying to date 4 or 5 girls at a time cause you cant choose just one.. hehe. Lots of money to be spent......

But yeah i'm not broke, i just stumbled upon a buidget of $3k and i cant tell you where from, but let me just say. Play the lottery!!!!!!

and a shop is installing everything. I'm just gonna collect all the parts, drop the tranny off at a shop, have it rebuilt, and all kinds of stuff and then bring the car to the performance shop..... hopefully work will let me off this close to x-mas.

"how do i diskonekt the fanny?"
"Engine fell whit do i do know?"
"Will my rodds be to lonhg?"

Just some ideas...

I dont know what shop your talking to, but to fully prep a block is typically $500 + the block itself.

And you still havent stopped saying d00d.

my advice is save the 40 bucks and buy a haynes manual. come on stop posting this crap. so you talked to the shop. no one cares. its a waste of bandwidth and your never gonna finish the motor. if you don't even have a shop light to check your car at night, how are you gonna build, install and wire a 350?

plus for 350rwhp your gonna need a supercharger or turbo setup with a stock 350 and even then i doubt it.

come on you wonder why people are getting pissed with you, its because you post this crap here ALL the time. finish a project and this will change.

If this doesn't get back to being Tech related, it's getting closed.

Walking into a machine shop spouting power numbers derived either from magazine ariticles or pulled from the air is good for the amusement of the shop operator, not much else. 350 RWHP from a 350 is not the stuff of standard street rebuild machining and parts.

"Performance", "budget", and "reliable" do not belong in the same sentence.

Taking a girl to Denny's is not a date.

Forget the 350rwhp and be happy with a running car for now.

Power in these cars are in the heads. Save for some good ones (ie $1500+ so you won't have to touch 'em).

You didn't solve the headlight motor problem as the motor is heading south.

What happened to the books you were going to buy and read?!?

Knock it off Shane you're teetering precariously close to the edge.

Yea, and I'm Batman... You're gonna have to prove this one to make me beleive it.

I know 19, 20yo girls, LOTS of them, and they can't stand high school kids. All talk and too much bravado and nothing to show for it.

I, however, am 19, and I can back up most of my talk and all my bravado, and they like that. They REALLY like that!

Don't beleive me? Look down.... Now do you?

BTW - This isn't a personal attack on you, so please don't take it that way. I just find it really hard to beleive.

What was the old hot rodding saying?

Cheap, Fast, Reliable. Pick 2 and the other it wont be. Like cheap and fast, it wont be reliable.... fast and reliable it wont be cheap.

Shane... if I was you (and being 19 now) I would take that 3,000 and put it into a college fund. You're graduating this year and college will cost you an arm and a leg. Ask me how I know!!! With that 3,000 you wont have to worry about a year at community college... you only have to work one job that year then, and still ride to school every day. Real easy year... how much nicer would that be than a gas guzzling 350RWHP car that you have to have a 2nd job for just so you can pay for gas.

Really man, I'm building an engine for my Camaro right now... I DONT WANT TO though! It's got spun bearings, was a 305 so I'm getting a 350... this will crunch right into my college money that I've been saving... and I only work about 20hrs a week... I just save well I guess.

Dont build a new motor if your current isnt broke... chances are you dont need the extra power, and at your age would only hurt yourself with it. I didnt even have my license until I was 18... had my permit for a while, just because I knew that I wouldnt be able to handle driving safe on my own... it was my decision, not my parents. I hope you're more responsible than you're letting on.

Okay, since noones even giving him any sort of real answer to his question, how bout if i asked the question. How do you get 300 RWHP from a 350 or 383 on a budget? thats 50 HP less, doent seem like much, but i'm sure it makes SOME difference...

shanes problem is his tpi wont let him make 350rhwp, he hasnt figured it out yet.

Car: 1984 Camaro on steroids/ 1987 iroc-z28 5 speed.
Engine: 383 nitrous motor / poindexter 305
Transmission: Th350
Now now, I'm 19, in college and have built 2 cars from the ground up. (1 being a VW, so I could work for NASA if I wanted to)

I have bought my second camaro and built my 383 (yes I built it, with help from my neighbor and a few David Vizard books.) which I am planning on spraying into the low 10's, in one year. Anything is possible, some kids dedicate themselves to learning things more than others. This kid, I guarantee, has ADD or really doesn't have any urge to learn anything real, or we would hear less from him. He enjoys attention.

In short, if you older guys think he is annoying to you, you should try going to school where 1 out of 5 people are exactly like him. Don't steriotype me though, unless you want to put your money where your mouth is.

I *think* he means LT1 intake conversion.

Shane, the heads, cam and ancillary valvetrain item you'll need for any decent power will set you back almost $2K. Go back to my post and heed the advice given and stop being stupid. No one care about your 'girls' anyway.

i sure hopes thats what he meant.

shane you have a 305 that runs, save some money and do this right, wait a year or so until you've put enough time into your car and then you'll know what to do.

trust me building an engine isn't as easy as unbolting eveything and bolting it back up. everything has to be done right. wrench some more save enough and then go at it. and get a haynes manual, your talking about builinding an engine but you couldn't get your headlight motor working properly?

this isn't a flame, this is us trying to make sure you don't screw up with a alot of money

ADHD is by far no reason for his behavior, and I personally don't think he fits the mould.

That was what most people call a contradictory statement.

Contradictory statement. The type of statement the lawyer does not want you to utter in a deposition. You also have to take his statement in context.
