i have read alot of topics on here about this subject...... but am still torn ..i live in nevada.....so i was leaning towards a 160 ..but what do u think...thanks

If it's computer controlled and you don't want to do a lot of mods to it, go with a 180. The ECM needs to see 169* (I think) to go into closed loop mode.

If it's not computer controlled, put whatever you want into it.

It's more than just engine intake air temp. Wet flow engines (TBI and carb) like to have engine temps around 190 for best results. Dry flow like TPI is different, some like cool, some like hot, I couldn't tell you. I know that most say 160 is too cold and 180 is best so just go with 180.

On long highway cruises my carbed 350 like to try an foul plugs in 6th gear. That was with the 160 stat. When I bumped to 180 the problem stopped. I am sure this is not the same for everyone, but my motor seemed to like the extra 20 degrees.

I'm running a 160 stat in my L98 and it's really going through the gas.It runs about 150 to 155 degrees on the highway and about 190 when sitting still.

I had a 160 in there and mt L98 was going through gas like water and the car didnt like it. I put back in my 180 and got good milage and better performance.
