Steel or fiberglass hood, pros cons

I'm looking for a cowl hood and I want to know ALL the pros and cons. I was looking at the hardwood cowl, I like the angle but there is no middle ridge that is defined. I like the look of the Goodmark steel hood. I don't plan on going all out racing and I'm looking for something that will hold up for a long time. What is the weight difference? Can people list ALL the known brands, I don't want to miss something and wish I had....you know. Thanks in advance.

I have a glasstek 2in cowl hood and like it a lot. A fiberglass hood is much lighter, I'm not sure of the exact weight difference. The disadvantage of a fiberglass hood is that sometimes they don't fit as well and you might have to get hood pins to keep it from moving around. So far I haven't needed hood pins for my hood and it fits very well.
Steel hoods tent to fit better and be more durable but weigh a lot more. Also there isn't a very large selection of aftermarket steel hoods.

From what I have seen if you want to save the weight get glass, if you want to avoid hassle and get it installed and painted cheaper get steel...

Yeah, I remember when I was getting estimates to get the front end damage repaired. A lot of the shops I talked to didn't want to mess with glass hoods. The ones that agreed to do it considered it "custom work", and therefore tried to a$$ rape me.

the unlimited products 2 1/8 inch cowl that I have is about 50lbs lighther than steel. But, when they drop it in shipping, it does not hold up very good.

I believe some camaros came from the factory with glass hoods. I do not remember which years though. You might do a search or ask someone in the history forum.
