GEN I carb intake on LT1 heads
Is it possible to do this. What are the differences, i hear the bolt angles are different, and the LT1 ports are alittle larger. But are the ports raised or in different locations.
I am not really worried about the GEN I intake being smaller and having alittle mismatch. I will grind the intake alittle bigger for better alignment, but since the intake is smaller it won't be an obstruction.
I know that GMPP has and LT1 and LT4 intake but whats the difference between them and the GEN I intake?
Thanks

Here are some other links I dug up...
Some threads by some guys here who've done it.
I'm not sure that fully answers your question, but it's some fresh info anyhow.

The biggest difference between the LT1 carb intake and a stndard carb intake is the lack of a thermostat in the LT1 carb intake. The LT1 engine has the thermostat in the water pump as compared to a standard carb intake.
The bolt angles on the 4 outer holes are different but they are in the correct spots, all the rest of the bolt holes are in completely different locations.
Port locations are the same on both.

So is it even possible to use a Gen I intake on them? What would have to be done for it to work?

This link shows how to mod the heads to work with a gen1 intake
http://www.lt1intake.com/LT1_retrofit.htm
I'd prefer to mod the intake bolt pattern to fit the existing bolt pattern on the LT1 heads tho. Which would mean drilling a few holes and then spot facing them to match the angle of the LT1 bolts.
That way an LT1 EFI intake could easily be retrofit later if nessecary.
