Which pistons? 400 w/3.875 stroke, 6" rods, .040 or .060 over
I know this is not an ordinary combination, it's pretty common to see stock bore 415 strokers for sale though. So do they make the same pistons for .040 or .060 over? "off the shelf" is what I mean, I don't really want to spend money on custom pistons if I can help it. Also what should I be looking for with compression ratio? I would like to have a nice pump gas set of pistons, I see -10cc, 4cc, etc. What piston cc to get about 10:1 using 64cc heads?
Also I wasn't sure to put this in a different thread or not, does this sound like the right order of events for building an engine like this? I have access to many of the measuring tools, drill presses, milling machine to do much of the work myself.
-get the 3.875 stroke crank and clearance block accordingly
-smooth out oil returns and any sharp casting edges
-get rods & pistons, clearace block for rods
-drill and tap for splayed main caps (starting w/2bolt block)
-machine shop for line bore, install cam bearings
-start final shortblock assembly
I really appreciate any advice and help on this, It's my first build of this kind and I anticipate having to make a lot of measurements and test fitting. I've already picked up and read a couple "stroker sbc" books and plan to order blueprinting and assembling sbc's.

edit- I wasn't very specific about the oversize, I'm not sure if the block will handle .060 over. The plan for now is to check if it's straight enough to just hone (it's at .040 over now) and run .040 over pistons again. What's a little bit of piston slop when your making over 550lb. ft. of torque, right?

For your first build, it's a bigger project than many experienced builders would attempt.
That doesn't mean it couldn't be done, but be aware that in a lot of cases builders who have a bit of experience under their belts occasionally have to go back and "do it over" because of some oversight.
One thing that can make having to do it over particularly painful is when you have some expensive parts in the engine that can't be reused.
IMO it's bad planning to build such an expensive/labor intensive project using a +.060 block as a foundation.
Even if it was a success, if you wanted to re bore it later, you couldn't.
I say save the +.060" for low comp truck rebuilds using cast pistons and factory bottom end parts.
HP applications should be .020"to.040" oversize.
Another block shouldn't be that hard to find.
Here are some sites that have a lot of different pistons and their dimensions

You need approximately a 1" compression height piston. Not good for reliablilty. I would cut back on the rod length to atleast 5.85" if not 5.7"
Is it really worth all the trouble for 10-15 more cubes? I say no but thats me!

That's prolly the opinion of everyone here and good advice, Thanks!
You wouldn't know anyone with a nice set of heads for a 400 build for sale? Oh, I see your in Moscow.. I only deal with U.S. sellers
