CRAP! - cap screw rod bolt touches cam lobe
Thats exactly why I got the ones I did, they weren't supposed to need clearancing. I had allways heard that it was only number 2 and 6 rods that touched. I don't know for sure but the others might also touch. I guess I am going to have to put one in at a time and see. But, if I am going to have to remove material, I guess I should do it to all rods.
JCB,
If you want to maintain any kind of balance, you'll need to cut all bolts the same. Are you stroking the engine?

its a 400 with 5.7 rods. Yep, i found out when I was checking the piston to valve and degreeing the cam. I had used the same cam in a previous shortblock that had 5.7 X rods. The corners of the bolt heads on #2 and #6 had been touched but that is all.
I sent scat an e-mail in hopes they would tell me how much is safe to take off (acutally probably none but). The threads are pretty close to the top hole. The motor was balanced already.. it balanced up with 1709 grams bobweight. i had hoped to have it very light with really strong parts but i got screwed on that deal.
I think there is enough to remove without any problems.
Actually, i just looked closer at the X rods, number 1 and 5 had also been ground. maybe I can look at the ones that had been cut and get a general idea how much i need to take off.

man the bolt heads are cut a lot. I can't see doing that to the new rods. especially all 8 of them. ....
blast,, i am at least going to need new pushrods with the reduced BC cam. I might as well go solid roller.
I am kind of pissed at www.dynoflo.com. He could have said something about a reduced BC cam when i got all this stuff.
