DUDE! Same problem with my 86 2.5. Needs a little coaxing in the morning and at startup through the day. Runs like a champ when it gets going except there is an intermitent hesitation from a dead stop. (Feels like a bad plug wire)
I've replaced just about everything except the TPS. On a hunch from a previous post, I'm going to take a look at the pick up coil. One post suggested that a faulty coil could possibly cause these symptoms. Although it was on a GTA. When I replaced my cap/rotor and ignition control module I had a ton of rust chunks in the cap itself. I didn't even know (until today) there was a pick up coil to replace. I thought it was the ignition coil. I bought one of those too! Hopefully this will get rid of my problems. No codes so it must be something mechanical.

Check the minimum Idle Speed. That's what fixed my 2.5! It's an 86, and the min idle was too high, and the IAC couldn't correct it, and it did die from time to time. If you have access to a scan tool, check the IAC counts, then get back after that and the min idles speed check.
It very well could be the IAC itself, too.
Good luck, and check back with details!

Working on:
'84 Z28 LG4 305 with 200,000 original miles!
Added dual elec fans.
145 MPH IROC Speedo
Building 430 HP 350 (ZZ430)
using primarily GMPP parts.
Short block sitting on a stand. (Man, those Fast-Burn heads look good, (just sitting there doing nothing!LOL))

I have an 86 S10 with a 2.5. It didn't want to idle and it ran like crap. I replace the EGR valve and it ran A LOT better. No code showed up for it, but you can easily tell if it is gone bad. Mine was stuck open and wouldn't move. May not be your problem, but it's an idea.
I replaced the IAC and just about every other sensor except the throttle position sensor.
Problems are on start up the turn over doesn't sound right. Like it is firing and missing every other one. Almost like a battery going bad. But its not the battery! When it fires I have to give just a little gas to keep it going. If I don't she will fall on her face; but will fire right back up. Once it gets going, it feels/sounds like a miss ONLY from a dead stop. All other RPM/speeds are excellent.
One thing I did motice that has me thinking is after a 10 or so mile trip I put it in park and the idle is high. Too high for a warmed up engine. Then after it idles for a bit it will gradually go back down.
I think my water pump is going cause it sounds like marbles in a box sometimes under the hood

94 is a 2.2L. Like they said, check the IAC.
