took intake off... gotta problem
i took the intake off today... and there is burnt looking oil its hard now... all around the pushrod that is at the front of the motor also the head has dried looking oil on the outside of it running down to the block.. sound like whoever owned it ran it hot and warped the head? that then let the oil flow down to the pushrod on that side and also down the outside of the block? i dont want to put the new intake on with that crap like that ya know... any suggestions?

You put a 305 in a 280zx?? Why. The original Straight six with some exhaust work, and Triple Webber carbs would blow the doors off all 305 F bodies, and alot of 350 ones too??? Trust me I use to own one 10 years back.
Anyhow, it sounds like that 305 isnt' something you want to play with anyway. It sounds like it is a very miled out engine with the image I am getting from your describing when saying "burnt looking oil its hard now"

everyone i talk to in the datsun z forums get rid of original 2.8 and get a sbc... i still have the 2.8L inline 6.. but the most power its capable of is like 240hp w/o turbo.. sure that would blow the doors off of a 240 hp 305 F-body.. the f-body would have ta shed a few pounds.

Well there are not very many 240hp 305's out there that I know of without alot of work done to them. The TPI 350 cars are just at the 240hp. The L69 HO 305 was only rated at like 175hp, and that was the highest rated 305 in GM cars of it's era.
