Ive read through numerous posts regarding balancing the one piece rear main seal engines but am still confused. My question is; which balancer/flywheel combo do I use for an internally balanced 383 one piece rear main seal engine (post 1987)?
I understand to NOT take the flywheel/balancer in to the shop and the rotating assy needs to be internally balanced. In doing so, does this require purchasing a new flywheel/harmonic balancer different from my previously used L-98 configuration? If so, which ones... pre 87?
Do I neutral balance my current flywheel or order a new one from a pre 87 350 and have it neutral balanced? Same question for the harmonic dampner (balancer). Ive read several opinions on this and the more I read the more confused I become. To top it off, I took the block to the machine shop today and they requested I bring the balancer/flywheel in so they can balance it as a complete set!

tell your shop what you're doing, just to avoid a problem or confussion. only one flywheel/flex plate will bolt to the one piece seal cranks, one made for a one piece seal crank that has the bat wing weight. that's what you'd want to use so if you ever need a replacement you can buy off the shelf and be ready to go.
