Budget built 355

I finally have some cash, $1200 to get me started, and want to start building a 355 with the goal of getting 350-400hp out of it(preferably 400). In the future I might be using mild shots of nitrous(in the 150hp range). With that said here are the parts I've picked, tell me if they're good choices or not.

Shortblock
Block- Used 350 4-bolt bored .030 over
Crank- Used, re-ground
Rods- Used, shotpeened and polished
Pistons- SRP forged aluminum, 10:1

Heads
Bowtie Stage II cast iron, 184cc runner, 64cc chamber. Manley Race Flo valves(2.020 intake, 1.600 exhaust)

Valvetrain
Cam- Comp Cams Magnum, .501/.501 lift, 244*/244* duration
Lifters- Comp cams hydraulic lifters
Springs- Comp cams, they're matched to the cam
Retainers- Comp cams steal retainers, locks, guide plates, pushrods and seals are also from Comp cams.
Rocker arms- Crane 1.6 ratio roller rockers
Damper- 6.75" Streetdampr

Induction
Intake manifold- Edelbrock Performer RPM
Carburetor- 650cfm Holley 4150

Ignition
Control Box- MSD Digital 6
Distributor- MSD Billet
Coil- MSD Blaster SS

Exhaust
Hooker Coated Comptition Headers, 1.75"

Other
Edelbrock aluminum water pump
Summit Chrome alternator
Whatever starter I can find
Moroso oil pan and windage tray
A decent oil pump
Weiand 1471 blower(yeah right)

Tell me what you think.

You might take a look into the April 2001 issue of CHP. They have an engine combo in there that sounds like what you want called the "Miserly Mouse". They claimed they got 390 HP at 6000 and 426 ft/lbs. at 4000. Not only is this engine in your power range, but the parts they used are more budget based than some of the ones you mentioned above. Depending on what parts you already have and what machining you need, $1200 would most likely get more than half of this engine built.

They only thing I don't know about though, is how this engine would respond to the laughing gas. Im kinda curious because that's what I was planning myself.

Good luck,
Victor

Ps Another good thing about the Miserly Mouse is that it's designed to run on 87 octane. With N2O Im sure you would have to use premium, but when not using the juice, 87 octane could sure help out in the money dept. with today's high gas prices.

Yeah, I read that article.

And your right about $1200 building half of the engine, thats the money I plan to use on the shortblock.
