ok guys this is what i got, 84 z ttops, had the 305 h.o. 7000r4 combo, i swapped the 305 for a healthier 350 carbed, a couple months ago my buddy barrowed it and sure enough it stops runnin, he managed to get her home, and the next mornin i start her up, and she smoked nasty black smoke, and idlin rough as can be, i shut her off and went and got another buddy slightly more mechanically inclined then myself, and tried to show him what was goin on, only she would not start, she just cranked and backfired through the carb, AHAH timing i can fix, well it turns out i got a double roller timing chain and it isnt broken or strecthed at all, so now i am like wtf and i need some help people, i dont wanna put a ton of money in this engine, i am gettin married soon and the little woman already hates the mighty mighty maro and if i spend a ton on it it surely will not help their relationship lol

please tell me what you think i need to do


o i forgot she always ran a little rich with the holley 650 it had on it, and it was only 6 months old (the carb that is)

Sounds like you have a float hung open. Probably has trash in it.

A carb rebuild will probably cure it.

I'm assuming that there's no fuel filter? Maybe adding one would be a good idea.

 

of course there is a fuel filter i put an inline right at the engine compartment
but thanks for the carb thing i thought i should do that i just gotta find a good tech to do the rebuild

Go buy a kit. You can take care of it in a matter of minutes.

 

im just not real comfortable doin carbs, i would rather rebuild a tranny then do a carb lol ill give er a shot tho what the hell
