Help choosing pistons
Motor is going to be a 383 w afr 195's. I know I wanna go w Keith Black hypers...But I can't find a model # that suit's my compression needs...I wanna stick in the 10:1-10.5:1 range. Does anyone have any advice or a model # for me?
Thanks
Jason

If memory serves me, the AFR's are a 76cc head, and if you're using a 5.7 rod, the KB 111's will put you at about 10.3:1, that's with a 9.025 deck height. They have a pretty good site for their stuff KB Piston Selection
Hope that helps,
Steve

The heads are 68 cc, and I am using 5.7 rods.
I have been to their website, but could only come up with ratio's in the 9.5(lower than stock) to 10.9-11.2 range.
I do not know what my deck height or gasket thickness is.
Thanks again,
Jason

In that case, take a second look at the KB100. With 68cc heads, puts you right at a 10.4 CR. If you haven't had the head decked, the stock deck is 9.025. This means that when the piston is at TDC, it's .025 inches down below the top of the block. A 'Zero-Decked' block is when the shop machines the deck so that it's exactly 9.0 inches from crank centerline to the surface of the deck. That way, the piston, at TDC is flush with the top of the block.
As for gasket thickness, the standard FelPro gasket is .040 I believe when compressed. Summit or any other catalog will list the compressed or installed thickness of the gasket.
Hope this helps
