Dist. 1 tooth off?

Hey guys, can you explain to me why having a distributor one tooth off really matters? If your timing is set at 6*B, then isn't it the same regardless of the distributor position? I've seen posts indicating that having a dist. off 1 tooth could be the reason for your timing being off, but if its timed with a light, its right. I understand about being 180* off and firing on the exhaust stroke, but this 1 tooth off stuff has me confused!

It doesn't matter to people who find #1 @ TDC and start from scratch like you should do.

It matters to someone who kept all the wires on the cap and put it back like they found it.

It also matters to someone who starts from scratch but wants to put it back the way the factory built it whether it was like that when they took it apart or not.
