fuel pump

When I turn the key to accessories i get no buzzing sound. I am familiar with this sound because my moms astro van does it. I have owned the car for 2 years, and i have never heard the fuel pump prime. Is it normal not to hear it or is mine just "quiet"? What are the chances I have been driving around for 2 years with a bad fuel pump? When it was running, i could push the pedal to the floor and it would hit 5k with no problem. If it was a bad pump wouldn't the engine die with lots of throttle? Oh yea, it was running fine just before it died.

The fuel pump should not operate in the ACC position. It should only prime for two seconds in the RUN position. The RUN position is the first forward detent of the ignition switch. The ACC position is the reverse position of the ignition switch. If the pump does not run a two second prime cycle when you turn the ignition on (RUN) the relay may be suspect.

Obviously, the fuel pump is working, or the engine would not operate.
