quick question

my cts looks to be rigged...i think it has something to do with my fan also being rigged to always run( my fan always is running). but i have been reading and found out that a bad cts would cause the bad idle i have been noticing. could this cts setup that i have cause problems? and if so what do i need to do to fix it? thanks alot, for any help!

Gee, give it some time. A lot of members here only come around evenings or early morning.

Can't tell with certainty from the picture, but the wires may have been tapped into at one time. Otherwise, the connector appears to be the right one, although not all that good a condition right now.

I've tried to figure out from your posts where you've been and what the problems are. For the sake of this post, the CTS won't cause an issue while the car is cold - so, if you have an idle problem when it's cold, it's not the CTS.

2nd, left unanswered from a previous thread, you are missing the vacuum line from the EGR solenoid to the EGR valve. The solenoid is bolted to the intake manifold behind the valve. Probably won't explain your idle problem, whatever that is, but it will cause other problems.

3rd, the port to the air cleaner Thermovac seems to be blocked off. I'm assuming it stays that way when you put the air cleaner back on. I'm also assuming from the heat tube on the passenger side exhaust manifold and the condition of some of the hoses in front of the carb that you are using a stock air cleaner. Again, this won't explain idle problems, necessarily, but it can cause other problems.

Finally, you've talked about this being a new car to you and having had spark plugs out. However, I don't see (or just missed) any reference to a "real", full tune-up - spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, having all been replaced. You might have mentioned O2 sensor, don't remember and don't feel like re-searching, but if that hasn't been replaced, do it. Personally, I replaced all vacuum hoses one at a time to eliminate any vacuum leaks - which will cause idle problems. Double check all the vacuum lines per the under-hood diagrams to make sure they're all hooked up (look on the FAQ forum if yours are missing). And, you may need to do a compression check to make sure you don't have a "dead" cylinder - which will cause idle problems and no amount of tuning will cure.

I also don't recall seeing any references to SES lights - indicative of the computer not being happy for some reason or another.

Hope that helps you understand a little of what you may have ahead of you.

well the picture i posted is alittle old...it shows before i did work, since the pic i have replaced and hooked up all vacuum lines, so none are blocked off anymore. i just had the cts wire's to figure out. i have done a full tune-up plugs, wires, cap, dis, rotor, oxygen sensor. i have no ses lights..but when i ran it for codes i did get a code 13. and i seem to be running extremely rich. once again sorry for my lack of information and thanks alot for your help.

Just a thought.. I am building my motor now have discoverd the CTS plug to be in poor shape also. The wires are rotting just before the plug. The person before you may have cut the same wires to fix.. not a very good job it I might add.
