My friend ask what engine parts (brand, model) are good enough for LT1 repair ? He wants to attach a supercharger to this engine and fears that OEM parts wont hold it. The parts he need to purchase are :
Pistons
Piston rings
Crankshaft bearings
Timing kit
Distributor
Clutch
Thanks for answering

For pistons, it is relative to budget when it comes to forged pieces. How much he wants to spend will play a large role in that, all he needs to know is to get a forged set of pistons. Diamond, SRP, JE, Ross, Probe are just a few brands I can name right off hand.
For rings, whatever the piston manufacturer says to use, I am using JE file fit moly rings, I have heard real good things about them.
I don't know about the timing kit, but an upgraded one would be good.
What year LT1? the late model LT1's don't have a distributor, they have opti-spark, and as long as it works well it should be fine.
For a clutch I assume a T56, I am either gonna run a Ram HD clutch, or a SPEC stage 4, alot of guys recomend the street twin clutch, nut its like $1200.

He wants to spend not more than 600 dollars for pistons/rings. LT1 is '94 year. Thanks for the info

SRP and diamond pistons should fall into that price range then. No problem man.

I would suggest he get some forged SRP pistons and the recommend rings, some eagle forged H-beam rods, and use the stock crank. The stock crank is actually one hell of a good cast and is quite strong. The weak link in the stock bottom end of the lt1 is the rod bolts and pistons. Make sure he uses ARP rod bolts.
Thanks, I'll do it. What about GM Performance Parts pistons ? Are they good ?
And there is one more stupid question
He was told by mechanic that he should buy pistons, rings and bearings for "first repair". I dont know what bore does it mean for abovementioned parts....
