Dumb Question I'm Sure...but would like to know

i have an 84 TA with L69 engine....on any other car i've been in when u turn the key so it's just on power u hear the fuel pump humming or whatever, when it turns on.....i noticed that my car doesn't do that and i checked the fuse panel it has a label for the F.Pump but there is no fuse nor any connector to put a fuse in....so what do i have??

Since your car's an 84, it should have a mechanical fuel pump. Mechanical fuel pumps run off of an eccentric on the front of the camshaft, so of course it's not working unless the engine is running/turning over.

Benm109 is right about the pump unless the carb was scraped for a fuel injectoin setup

Carbs require 5-8 psi fuel pressure so a electric fp is not required. All earlier carbed 305's had mechanical f's, i'm not sure about the 87's?

Later years (post-86), GM started to install in-tank helper pumps to assist in the vapor lock issue.

My 84 Z28 with an L69 had an intake helper pump in the tank from the factory. Eventually the rubber hose from pump to sending unit split causing lots of fun. I don't know if it's supposed to prime with key on, but with the car running I could hear it was on by listening back by the gas tank. Your car should have the same. If you look at the wires going to the sending unit in the tank, it should be a 3-wire pigtail with the helper pump and a 2-wire pigtail without.
