Question about "416" heads

Can anyone help me out and let me know if the 305 "416" heads can be cut to accomodate the 2.02/1.6 valves? I know that normally they are 1.84/1.5 valves, but I want to make them breathe a little better.

Thanks!

You are going to have a big shrouding problem with the 202 it can be done but you are going to lose CR with the chambers being unshrouded. Better off going with the 1.94's still need unshrouding but not as much and can CR can be helped by shaving the heads. The heads will flow great with them.

Go with the 1.94 and 1.5 combo youll be much happier. If your using a 350 you can run a 1.6 exhaust valve aswell without As mentioned before there will be a shrouding issure with the bigger valves. Also these heads are setup for good low lift numbers with there 165cc runners and what not the smaller valve setup will make more torque. I have these heads on my mild 350 and I love them. There really isnt a better bang for the buck head that I can think of.

Thanks for the replies -- just a couple questions. My book says that the normal sizes for the valves are 1.84 & 1.50. Both of you mentioned 1.94 -- Is that was really is normal? Also, what is shrouding -- I just have never heard of it.

The valve is shrouded by the combustion chamber. Meaning some parts of the valve are so close to the side of the combustion chamber that flow will be limited. You can "unshroud" those areas by porting away some of the combustion chamber material, but as noted, you will lose compression by doing so.

yes, 1.84's are stock, the 1.94's are the most common upgrade on those heads.
