carb to tpi ?'s
here we go... ive a bunch of stuff i need to get straightened out
i have a 1984 Vin G Z28 with T5.
About to install a 1986 TPI from Vin F? IROC Automatic
ive got... manifold, runners injectors, fuel rail manifold... all the top end. ecm and im about to get the harness and fuel pump.
i have the new cluster (145 mph) to replace the cable 85 mph.
1) There is a difference between the speedo gear in 84's and the 85+ correct? since ones electronic the speedo gear should have a electronic sensor or something?... I'm gonna guess that since my transmission is a T5 the speedo gears would be different from the automatic anyway so i can use the one from the iroc?
2) Will i need the IROCs Catalytic coverter, manifolds and A.I.R. setup.... including the air pump? (CA smog vehicles)
3) Are the distributors different?
4) i've never pulled an engine harness out of an f-body and i dont know what to expect... any tips or threads i can be referred to for help?
and finally any other tips or threads on the what im doin would really help... the searches dont really show me everything i need to know...
thanks

No there is no difference in the speedo. Both cars use the type of VSS that's a little yellow box mounted on the back of the cluster.
Since you're starting out with a Vin G car, the exhaust is the same as the VIN F car; or at least close enough to use. All you really need to do is gut the EFE valve and put 1/8" pipe plugs in it where the shaft was.
Yes the distributors are different; the TPI requires a cap that's not quite as tall. Seems like it uses screws instead of the ¼ turn fasteners.
Follow the harness to the right fender well area. There's a plastic clip that holds it to the body in the interior. This is all the same in both cars, it's not significantly different until you get out under the hood, the only difference I can think of in the interior is its connections to the fusebox for power to the injectors and fuel pump. It will all come out as one continuous piece, and will plug right into your car's wiring harness. DO NOT CUT ANYTHING ON EITHER CAR!!!!! IT IS NOT NECESSSARY!!!!!!! LEAVE YOUR DYKES AT HOME.. Or you will surely be posting next about "how do I get the such-and-such to work", and nobody will be able to help you, because non of us will be able to see your harness clearly enough to tell what got sodomized in the process.

ill be sure to get the dizzy
im not sure about the EFE valve... got pics or can you elaborate on it a bit more?
as far as the harness... it would probably help to have the fender off? and would i need to go behind the dash? would i need the fuse box?
sorry for so many questions i just dont wanna forget ANYTHING

EFE is a valve between the right side manifold and the Y pipe. It has a vacuum line on it. Stays closed to increase back pressure when the engine is cold and opens up when it's warm.
Don't take off the fender. Stock fuse boxes are all the same. Which fuses and the wires associated with them are not. You might have to feed a few extra wires into the fuse box. They might be there in your car or they may not be. I've seen it both ways. Make sure you understand what you are doing first and then you will undersand why. Makes things a lot easier.

so the 84 has the EFE and the IROC does not?
understand what im doing? haha i wish. my first time! but hey i need to learn, no better than hands on experience, plus i have my trusty TPI Swappers Guide comin in the mail.
right now i have to figure out how im going to get the intake manifold off the IROC. i snapped my torx on it taking it off already on the LAST BOLT. well see what happens tomorrow.
thanks again
