Heated O2 Sensor Install??
Heated O2 Sensor Install??
Hey guys i need to install a heated O2 sensor. Is it the same as a stock one? I read that some have more than one wire and there's splicing involved. Some detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.I looked in the tech articals but didn't find any there. Also what brand is best to use? Thanks for the help.

There are three wires in a heated O2 sensor. If you get the Bosch brand (I think Bosch supplies GM with O2 sensors so the AC Delco would be the same) then two of the wires will be the same color and the other one will be a different color. Connect one of the identically colored wires to a 12V switched power source. Tha MAF power relay is a good source for this. Connect the other one to a ground. The wire that's left goes to the old wire from the ECM. It would be best to buy a 3 pin weatherpack connector and hook it into the harness so you could just unplug the O2 sensor whenever you needed to change it. Otherwise you will have to undo all the wiring and that could get messy.

yeah, basically what irocbsa said. I put one in my car. I got porked for $7X.XX from GM for the sensor, but it's all good.
I bought the other side of the weather pack plug from a local parts store and wired it into my car by grabbing the +12 from the fuel pump relay (Make for Damned sure you don't tap off the small green wire, because that's the feed from the ECM and you'll fry the fuel pump relay out put - trust me
), and I grabbed ground from the fuel pump relay bracket. This made for nice consise wiring because the signal wire goes into the wiring harness right near there anyway, so I could run all 3 wires up together in a piece of split loom tubing. All in all, it looks totally stock.

Thanks for the info. Where is your O2 sensor located on the header? Mines down on the collector, but I've also seen guys with them up by the head on one tube.Lastly does the heated one do the trick, with it down on the collector??

I have it in the collector, and with the heated sensor I go into closed loop much, much quicker.
