SBC and BBC flywheels the same?

i think they are? i'm about to get a BBC for my old car and it doesn't have a flywheel so i want to reuse the one from my 336 SBC on the BBC. thanks

Not normally. Most SB fws are drilled for a 10.5 inch clutch. BBs are 11s. That makes most sb 153 teeth and BBs 168 (I think). Then you have the externally balanced issue with 454s.

Externally balanced, no. Internally balanced, yes. But the ring size (153 or 168) depends on what the bellhousing can accomodate size wise.

i believe most big blocks and small blocks shared the same flywheels and even starters, excepting the 454 from this rule..

my Dad's '72 402 1/2 ton truck takes the same starter as my '72 350 El Camino did, same PN#

SBC and BBC flywheels are absoultly interchangeable with the exceptions being the 400 SB, 454, and the 502. Those are externally balanced. Starters are a slightly different matter. The simple explanation is don't expect a 327 starter to spin a 454.

i've read that GM used some gear reduction starters on small blocks..

i want one but they're a small fortune, 150ish bones.. ouch.
