Crank pulley to balancer bolts

Well, I had the crank pulley bolted to the balancer and was tightening one of them and the head of the bolt broke off! I am just wondering.... how important are these 3 bolts? i mean the big middle one that goes through the balancer is obviously the most important. It seems that the other 3 are just to keep the pully from spinning. It just seems to me that 2 could probably do the job fine on a mild 305 such as mine. I just want to avoid pulling a bunch of stuff off if i dont have to.
